The Baboon Matters Trust is a non-profit organisation that comprises a handful of dedicated people who are at the forefront of baboon conservation in South Africa. The goals of the Trust include raising awareness around the plight of baboons as well as education and training so that sustainable solutions can be found for areas of conflict between humans and baboons.
On a practical level the Trust makes provision for the rescue and care of injured or sick baboons, and aims to support rehabilitation centres that focus their attention on baboons.
An area that requires huge, on-going effort is that of advocacy – ensuring that the ethical and intrinsic rights of baboons are not overlooked in the face of increasing urbanisation and development.
From all the anecdotal evidence coming to Baboon Matters it is clear that baboons across southern Africa face a bleak future and we appeal to those of you who have been moved by “Beast or Blessing” to send your contribution to the Baboon Matters Trust so that we can not only continue our important work, but develop our range of operations to ensure the conservation and management of baboons for generations to come.
